Mergermarket training prepares Finance students for real world

The EADA Knowledge & Information Centre is dedicated to enhancing the experience of participants by providing access to the most valuable resources available in a wide range of areas, including financial markets, consumer surveys and sustainable business, as well as content from top professional journals, newspapers and dissertations. These resources are complemented by the expertise of EADA librarians and tailored training sessions to ensure that students make the most of their master or MBA programme.

Companies around the world use Mergermarket to refine their strategies and capture new business.

As Knowledge & Information Centre Coordinator Joan Pou explains, the training sessions are an essential part of the Knowledge & Information Centre mission. “The aim is to empower students to be autonomous when consulting and recovering information from EADA’s resources,” he says. “These resources are the same ones used in real-world companies, and experience using them improves participants’ CVs and gives them added value in the labour market after graduation.”

The latest training session was focused on Acuris’ Mergermarket, one of the leading resources for information and analysis of M&A on a global scale. Mergermarket is a unique resource that provides a 360o view on mergers and acquisition through a global network of specialised journalists and analysts focused on:

  • Predictive intelligence to keep subscribers ahead of the game
  • League tables to help analyse firm performance
  • Independent coverage of ECM
  • Analysis that summarises the most relevant stories worldwide
  • Deals database with a comprehensive history of M&A transactions
  • Private equity portfolio with data on over 1,000 of the world’s biggest PE firms

EADA offers full access to Mergermarket to all students and the training session was attended by more than 60 participants from the International Master in Accounting & Financial Management, International Master in Finance and Master Internacional en Finanzas – Bilingüe. This resource is invaluable when performing case study work or projects that require real data, and can even be used as a professional development tool to improve employability.

The session was presented by Mergermarket Senior Consultant Maria Alejandra Rodriguez, who explained the process of retrieving information using examples from the final projects of attendees. Master Internacional en Finanzas – Bilingüe participant Baohua Qiao was particularly interested in the presentation on company valuation, while other students named private equity analyses as among the highlights.

The calendar of training sessions on financial resources continues this week with a session on Thomson Reuters EIKON, providing access to real time market data, news, fundamental data, analytics and trading.
