Last Thursday, EADA’s team took first place in the CFA Research Challenge Spanish final hosted by the CFA Society Spain. The CFA research Challenge is a global competition promoting practical training in financial analysis. The winning team competed against 6 other teams from the top business schools and universities around the country (including another team from EADA), finally emerging as winners later the same day after a full day of presentations and Q&A sessions.
The team consists of 5 participants from the International Master in Finance programme: Frederik Hünnekens (Germany), Jón Haukur Jónson (Iceland), Iryna Krepchuk (Belarus), Jiawen Liu (China) and Adarsh Motwani (India).
The final was held at the Madrid Stock Market, where all of the teams presented an equity research report about this year’s chosen company, Sacyr. Each team presented its findings to a panel of experts, followed by an intense Q&A session.
According to Jiawen, the support between teammates was an important part of their success. “I was more nervous than I expected right before the competition, but my teammates encouraged me and helped me practice over and over,” she says. “I learned a lot from my team both personally and professionally.”
EADA’s team will continue on to the EMEA Regional Final of the CFA Research Challenge in April. The event will be held in Zurich, Switzerland, where the winning teams more than 40 local competitions will compete for the title of EMEA Regional Champion. In Zurich, teams are assigned to one of two sub-regions and their written reports and presentation are scored by CFA Charterholders. Two EMEA Regional Champions are selected to advance to the Global Final in New York at the end of April to compete against the winning teams from the Asia Pacific and Americas regions.
