EADA students learn programming and API best practices

The third and final module of the coding bootcamp EADA-Le Wagon Tech Business Track took place last week.  The training is conducted by Europe’s leading coding school, Le Wagon. The first module, Product Design Sprint, was held in the first trimester, and the second module devoted to web development took place this January. The three-module coding Track was offered to all full time Master and MBA participants with an interest in developing the skills to design, code and launch products using the latest technology.

The focus of this month’s module is programming and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). Today, APIs are an integral

of our daily experience. Every time you visit a page on the Web, you interact with some remote server’s API. On a professional level, at some point, the majority of large companies have built APIs for their customers, or for internal use. This is why the automation of time-consuming tasks and extraction of information from websites is invaluable in today’s business world.

Module 3: Programming and APIs

An understanding of programming and APIs is essential to automating a wide variety of tasks and extracting key info from websites automatically. This is the most technical of the three modules, with the end goal of having participants run their first programming scripts.

Attendees walk away from the module with the ability to:

  • Understand the fundamentals of programming languages
  • Use APIs and web-scraping
  • Write simple programming scripts that collect data (from websites, APIs, etc.)

A worthwhile experience

We interviewed International Master in Management participant Mart Jacobs to find out about her experience in the EADA-Le Wagon Tech Business Track.

Why did you sign up for the EADA-Le Wagon Tech Business Track?

I had no real previous experience with developing apps and coding. I had always been interested in learning more about it, but was quite intimidated – coding seemed so complicated for someone with a completely different background. The compactness of the programme and the classes online made it perfectly compatible with my studies as well.

What was the most important thing you learned in the Le Wagon Web Development module?

Even though the concept of starting to develop and code projects seemed daunting at first, we learned step-by-step in a very logical way. Even with the basics, we could already do some pretty neat stuff.

How do you think the skills that you learned will help you in your future career?

Time will tell, but I feel like in the current job market, showing an active interest in all things IT-related is highly appreciated. IT is undeniably a huge part of today’s world and it gives off the wrong message when you ignore this fact. Whether you end up being a manager or starting your own business, this kind of knowledge is a great stepping stone to accelerating your success and understanding a little more about the digital parts of your business, even if you aren’t a master coder.
