Lia Rogers, Marketing alumna currently working in Facebook

We interviewed Lia Rogers, from the US, who took the International Master in Marketing in 2016-2017 and is currently working as an Account Manager in Facebook. Lia told us about her experience at EADA and what it is like to work in a multinational corporation.

Before joining EADA, Lia graduated in Art and Psychology at the San Diego State University (California), and had work experience in Marketing and Management. She also had lived for two years in Madrid, Spain.

Why did you decide to take the Master in Marketing at EADA?

I started looking into Masters programs when I started to feel like I had hit a lull in my career. I was looking for something that had the potential to pivot from being someone who follows the rules and does their job to a person who creates things and solves problems. I decided to take the Master in Marketing at EADA because of the international classmates and opportunity to broaden my mind and perspective.

What would you highlight about the programme?

Nothing beats the relationships I built and the people I met. Everyone in my program was hand selected for EADA with a unique background and you really can’t get that diversity anywhere else. Trends come and go but the context of the EADA marketing program is focused on the core of marketing management which doesn’t go out of style which I feel gives me a unique advantage to digital natives.

The fast-paced class structure prepared me to juggle multiple clients and stay on top of the ever changing digital world.

What knowledge learnt in the master have you used in your professional career?

Facebook is a company that values inclusivity and diversity in the workplace. Having the experience at EADA of working with people from all over the world prepared me to have an understanding and be accepting of all perspectives. The fast-paced class structure prepared me to juggle multiple clients and stay on top of the ever changing digital world.

What would be a typical working day for you in Facebook?

I am an Account Manager at Facebook Chicago in the Education vertical. I partner with several medium to large clients to implement Facebook and Instagram Marketing Solutions that best meet their business goals. A typical day involves meeting with my clients to analyze their performance data and provide insights to guide their digital strategy. Although that may sound straightforward, it is so unique depending on the client. While taking breaks there are many perks of the Facebook offices to enjoy!

The participation in class discussions trained me to think proactively which prepared me for strategizing with my clients.

What do you like most about your job?

When you join Facebook you leave your ego at the door. Every opinion is valid and we are always iterating, solving problems and working together. No matter what, everyone is working toward the ultimate goal of empowering people around the world to build community and connect in meaningful ways. We believe our work is never done, in fact we’re just getting started

What advice would you give to Marketing students who wish to work at big companies such as Facebook?

Explore your strengths! Before going to EADA it always seemed to me that there is a wrong and right way to do something without anything in between. At EADA I gained the confidence to share opinions constructively. The participation in class discussions trained me to think proactively which prepared me for strategizing with my clients.
