Oluwadamilola LAWAL is from Africa (Nigeria) and EADA’s International Master of Management graduate. Dami works as a Digital Sales Support (Data Quality and Governance) at Schneider Electric and drives company growth through collaboration among team members while bringing to the fore leadership capabilities.
How and when did you know you wanted to specialize in the digital world?
For as long as I can remember, I have known what I wanted to do with my life. Science has always been something that makes me tick, and technology has been my passion. Technology has been the major key to many of Africa’s most exciting developments in recent years, and I believe it the most effective channel for eradicating poverty, creating wealth and enhancing competitiveness among African countries. All these exciting developments led to my decision to specialize in it.
The most important skills for my current role have been communicating and having the ability to collaborate and excel as a team.
What are the most important skills of your current job?
Listening, communicating and taking responsibilities are my strongest qualifications as a leader. As a volunteer in humanitarian projects, my ability to identify community problems, assemble teams and initiate solutions define me as a self-driven and dedicated team player skilled at team management. Also, with the EADA experience with stable groups and various group works, ability to collaborate and excel as a team has been the most important skill for my current role. I work with Schneider electric as a Data quality and governance intern whose main responsibility is to assist and provide guidance to client teams on some development and business projects at Schneider electric and partners.
What would you highlight from the Master in Management from EADA?
From the Master I would highlight the Eada Innovation Challenge, the use of Business cases, Introduction to strategic management classes with Eric and the Personal development module at the Collbató Residential Training Campus. Joining the Master in Management from EADA has prepared me for my future career goals and shaped me into what I am today in terms of my career path. Furthermore, all these amazing experiences proved my entrepreneurial abilities and I am launching a startup company named CRIB to curb infant mortality in Africa.
Was it difficult for you to adapt to Barcelona and EADA, since you came from another continent?
No, language barrier has been the only difficulty faced coming to Barcelona. I am from an English speaking country (Nigeria) and coming to a Spanish speaking country, I had no idea of Spanish before arriving in Barcelona and this made my communication with locals as well as making friends with natives difficult.
What do you think people should take most into account when searching for a Master’s degree and school?
There is certainly more than one right school or degree to study but it’s important to define what is the right program and school match for you. We need to choose programs that fascinate us as well as challenge us to be better. Also, where we can network and connect with professionals that help clarify our career plans.
