HARD WORK PAYS OFF, CHLOÉ TEAL, ASSOCIATE CONSULTANT IN CAMELOT

From Barcelona to Munich. Chloé Teal started her International Master in Management in 2020 in EADA Barcelona. An excellent student, standing out from her peers. She was the Vice-President of the Consulting Club 2020-2021, received a Distinction award for her academic performance and participated in many courses EADA offered to complement her studies. Now she just started to work as an Associate Consultant in CAMELOT in Munich. We talked to her and asked her about this opportunity and her experience in EADA.

Tell us about your new position in CAMELOT? How did the opportunity come up?

During my Master’s, my team and I had to pitch to different companies for our thesis. Our first choice was CAMELOT, which we got and were then able to work with them from January to June. During that time, we worked very closely with our CAMELOT supervisors and at the end of the project, they asked me if I’d be interested in interviewing for a position at CAMELOT. I was, so I did the whole interview process and then was offered an AC role which I accepted.

What are your responsibilities as Associate Consultant?

A mixture of things. Working on a client project means that I help to build resources for clients, help my project team with any tasks they might need, and generally ensure with my project team that the client has all the resources needed for a sustainable transformation. I also do a lot of internal tasks helping my department to further develop processes, methodologies and service offerings mostly by doing research, analysis, brainstorming and creating slide decks.

What have you learnt in the International Master in Management that you can apply on a daily basis?

I further developed my interpersonal skills during my Master which are invaluable in consulting because you’re always talking to people. Also, general research and analysis skills which are important on a day-to-day basis when you’re a consultant. Furthermore, having such a practical course with hands-on teachers really gave me real-world experience in things like project management, teamwork, and relevant business knowledge.  But even less tangible stuff like soft skills at Collbato that taught me to get out of my comfort zone and to try new things.

How did your experience as Vice-President of the Consulting Club prepare you for your current job position?

Being Vice-President of the Consulting Club helped me because we had to fully organize, prepare, and then run sessions for students. This taught me about time management, about presenting to a group of people, and about knowing what you’re talking about. But also approaching, connecting, and being exposed to employees from different consultancies gave me deeper industry knowledge and a better idea of how to connect with other professionals.

What advice would you give to EADA students who wish to land a job as Associate Consultant?

Join the consulting club. Being able to practice cases will be invaluable when you start interviewing. Also, go to events in BCN, attend industry webinars, network with people, and make the most of the great professors you have at EADA.

How would you describe your experience in EADA and Barcelona?

Honestly, one of the toughest but best years of my life! For me it was particularly tough because I wanted a certain level of grades and to achieve a Distinction which was not easy and required extra work. But it paid off in the end, so for me it was worth it! Furthermore, it was also the best year of my life because we had so many great opportunities at EADA, the programme was super practical, which I loved, Barcelona is a great city to live in and we had the most amazing, cool, international cohort, and had a lot of fun times!
