Angel Bou, (Executive MBA, 2012), CEO and Cofounder of Simplr a platform of products and services on demand, with the possibility to be hired or acquired in just one click. Bou explained his purpose and the purpose of the company. For him, having a purpose means having a vision and putting that vision into practice.
For Simplr, it is basically changing the consumer pattern and becoming more sustainable. In order to make everyone in the team believe in that and support this purpose, first of all the leader has to set an example, and that way, proving to the others that it can be done.
In 2018, Angel Bou suffered a car accident that changed his life. He decided to enjoy his life every day and he brought that message to the company, changing the way of doing things by making things more accessible.
The advice that he gave to us is to stick to the purpose, to the vision, and to be resilient. Because many companies don’t know how to do this. Bou thinks that: “it’s just basically being resilient to face obstacles and see them as challenges rather than problems”.
The biggest challenge of Simplr has been technological. Basically, it brings together a lot of manufacturers and top brands so that they are able to offer their products and services in a new format.
They have challenges to be a company with impact and make progress in terms of sustainability. Trying to change the consumer pattern, even though it’s mostly educational. Recruiting the best team was their biggest achievement and sharing the company vision with all the team members.
But the huge challenge was basically changing the world by changing the way of consuming everything. By making a service where you can consume everything that has been used before by someone else. So at the end of the day it’s things that you don’t own but you can use in your everyday life. Also being a leader in this space by having top brands. In the end, they convince the world to consume in a different way.
Simplr and Angle Bou put a real effort into being sustainable. Being very resilient in terms of what sustainability means. Providing a global mindset was the clue. With the EADA Executive MBA he achieves the purpose of business. Knowing about the different access to sustainable products, methodologies, and tendencies of consumption.
Angel Bou, deals with the basis of a big company with a purpose. Building a team with the same mindset to achieve objectives with purpose. As he said: “the organizations need to take one step forward and understand that that’s the right way to go.”
The need to learn and adopt a global vision is what led Angel Bou to take the Executive Education MBA program. He acquired a global vision, allowing him to orient his professional life at an international level.
In the program, he found the challenge of abstracting himself a little and thinking outside of the box. It was quite a challenge, according to Bou: “to come up with solutions in a creative way, continually using this methodology and solving any kind of obstacle”.
Today’s managers must reinvent themselves. They have to be able to think out of the box and continually challenge themselves to solve the problems they encounter.
Bou sums up his experience at EADA in two words: “enjoy learning”. The camaraderie and collaboration among them gave him a unique and incredible experience. According to Bou: “going there was to enjoy and learn in a constant way, you didn’t feel like you were working. Quite the opposite.”
He considers it an experience that gives you a global vision at the same time as deepening financial and executive knowledge. He says that even having gone through the executive stage, as was his case, he recommends the EADA Executive MBA to reinforce a lot of knowledge and provide that dose of global vision that helps to rethink everything.
