Get to know Barcelona: Places to visit within 15 minutes from EADA

EADA Business School is strategically located in the heart of Barcelona city center, in the iconic Eixample disctric.

Conceived by the engineer and urban planner Ildefons Cerdà, it was built in the years of the industrialization of Catalonia, at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. Today, the Eixample is for many the heart of the city as well as being the most populated district of Barcelona. Filled with a huge variety of restaurants, cafeterias, gyms and shops, the Eixample is the perfect place to live the Barcelona experience.

With this article, we will explore together some of the highlights that the Eixample district offers that are right around the corner of EADA.

  • Passeig de Gràcia: Considered the modernist artery of the Eixample, this street has the most impressive modernist buildings in the whole district, such as Casa Batlló and La Pedrera, works of Antoni Gaudí and undoubtedly two of the most curious and admired buildings in Barcelona, and Casa Amatller, designed by another of the great exponents of modernism, Josep Puig i Cadafalch. This street also offers wide sidewalks with benches-lamposts made of broken tiles trencadis technique characteristic of Antoni Gaudí where you can sit on, sophisticated shops and a great variety of restaurants.

  • Rambla de Catalunya: Known as one of the most central and charming streets in Barcelona, it begins in Plaça de Catalunya and ends in Avinguda Diagonal. In it we can find a great gastronomic offer and many shops.
  • Enric Granados street: A street full of gastronomic offer right next to Eada.  Fancy brunch, quiet cafeteria to study, restaurants for a night out… you can definitely find it in this unique street. 
  • The Museum of Catalan Modernism: Located in an old textile factory designed by the modernist architect Enric Sagnier, it displays all kinds of artistic pieces which contextualise the modernist movement on an aesthetic, intellectual, and political level. 
  • Fundació Antoni Tàpies: Located in a modernist building designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner, the founder of this foundation Antoni Tàpies, sought to spread art throughout the world. His work and others work of modern and contemporary art are exhibited in the museum. 
  • Mercat del Ninot: In operation since 1893, this emblematic municipal market has a “Noucentista” style and was designed by Antoni de Falguera. It is considered an asset of cultural interest and an important place of the Antiga Esquerra de l’Eixample.
  • Headquarters of the University of Barcelona: This elegant 19th-century building holds the title of being the oldest campus in Barcelona and also one of the first large buildings in the Eixample. Apart from its spectacular architecture, one of the most amazing romantic gardens in the city is hidden inside the building. It is located 5 minutes walk from EADA, making this district a hub for student life.

10 to 15 minutes from EADA

  • La Pedrera: Also known as Casa Milà, this modernist work was Antoni Gaudí’s last civil work. The most striking thing about the building is without a doubt the curved shapes of its facade and the characteristic chimneys on the roof.

  • Plaça de Catalunya: Located in the centre of the city, this large square converges on major streets and is also one of the city’s main meeting points.
  • The gardens of Palau Robert: Designed at the beginning of the 20th century by the municipal gardener Ramon Oliva, they are considered one of the most emblematic natural jewels of the Eixample.
  • The Sant Antoni neighbourhood: This neighbourhood is one of the most cultural and alternative in Barcelona. In addition, it is located in a perfect place within the city, being very close to the centre and the areas of great activity to go out for lunch, dinner and a drink. The most famous attraction is the Sant Antoni Market, created by Antoni Rivera i Trias in 1882.
