We are excited to delve into the vibrant world of the EADA Sustainability Club 2023-2024. Launched on January 25th, this club has rapidly become a driving force in fostering sustainability education and action among the student community at EADA.
The club envisions itself as a “Platform to support high-potential talents becoming sustainability change-makers.” This profound vision underlines the commitment to not only educate but to empower students to make a lasting impact on sustainability issues.
Within the inaugural month, the Sustainability Club engaged over 75 students through two impactful activities, with four more currently in progress. The establishment of a dynamic community of 70 students from Bachelor’s, Master’s and MBA programmes on WhatsApp signifies a shared enthusiasm for sustainability initiatives.
One noteworthy achievement was the sell-out success of the water scarcity event, the vineyard visit, where 100% of tickets were snapped up within 24 hours, illustrating a strong student interest in addressing critical sustainability topics.
The club wasted no time in initiating several impactful projects. The Launching Day + Round table event, attended by over 60 individuals, resulted in 32 students expressing active interest in participating in club activities, with 9 willing to collaborate in creating or supporting future endeavors.
February’s focus on water scarcity is marked by ongoing activities, including a newsletter release titled “Facing the Drought: Unveiling the Water Scarcity Crisis & Your Power to Make a Difference.”, a project led by Carla Wong (MSc in Sustainable Business & Innovation participant from Perú) and the article written by Calum Lynch (MSc in Sustainable Business & Innovation participant from Scotland). Diego Ramos (International MBA participant from Brazil & president of the club) is steering initiatives like the Vineyard Visit to Familia Torres, offering students a firsthand look at regenerative agriculture’s impact on business and the environment.
The Sustainability Club has already made significant strides in special projects. Here are just a couple of examples:
Mahaut Issac (MSc in Sustainable Business & Innovation participant from Switzerland) collaborated to provide constructive feedback on the ‘Bioeconomy Youth Vision‘ report written by professor Daragh Cogley, the EU Bioeconomy Ambassador and EADA Alumni from the Master in Sustainable Business & Innovation 2021-2022.
Under the leadership of Henry Harris (MSc in International Management participants from UK), the club initiated the PiR Survey to assess EADA’s sustainability practices and provide student feedback The club is not only contributing actively to ongoing projects but is also on track to meet its goals. The club is responsible for deploying and collecting at least 100 responses until 31st March and the club has already achieved an impressive 97% of the survey target within the 12 days.
Carla Wong is also leading the European Youth Parliament (EYP) project in collaboration with 7 other students and creating a workshop focusing on the fashion industry and overproduction, raising awareness about its environmental impact. The workshop’s delivery is at the Regional Meeting of the European Youth Parliament that will be held on March 16th.
As we witness the enthusiasm and dedication of the club members and students, we eagerly anticipate the continued engagement and empowerment of students to become the sustainability leaders of tomorrow.
The club leaders emphasize that its purpose is to serve as a hub, enabling any student willing to get their hands dirty can reach out via sustainabilityclub@eada.net with proposed activities. Share your ideas and projects to make the community stronger. And if you are interested in collaboration, but unsure how to proceed, the club invites you to join the community WhatsApp group to explore the opportunities.
Stay tuned for more updates as the EADA Sustainability Club continues its journey towards positive change!
