Staying Active Beyond the Classroom at EADA

At EADA, students spend plenty of time working hard in the classrooms, studying in groups in the study rooms, and connecting on EADA’s rooftop 8th floor. But what happens outside the hours of class and learning— more specifically, how can students maintain a balanced lifestyle? I took the time to interview a few students to understand how to stay active in both mind and body.

The first place I started was EADA’s running club, organized by Vasilina Giannaki from Greece, a current student of Master’s in Pharma and Biotech Management at EADA. The running club meets on Mondays at the Arc de Triomf, a famous monument in Barcelona. Runners start here and make their way down to Barceloneta, a stretch alongside the beach where many avid runners flock to. While the purpose of the club was initially to help train for the Barcelona half marathon (which took place on February 11th, 2024) many simply joined for the stress-relieving experience and the chance to connect with others.

Sally, a Master’s in Pharma and Biotech Management student at EADA, spoke to me about her experience:

“I usually run alone, but joining the EADA running club changed things. Now, I’ve got friends who also love running. Having them with me makes it more fun, and it pushes me to run even better.”

While some students enjoy the calm of running, others enjoy the thrill of competition. Henry, a Master’s in Management student at EADA, prefers to play football on the weekends. Through the app Celebreak, Henry can have lots of flexibility:

“It’s always been one of my favorite things to do with friends, play football, and Barcelona’s the perfect place for it. There are a lot of different pitches and it’s very easy to find a game to play.”

The last student I spoke to had an interest in beach volleyball. He joined two teams, one through an online app called Meetup, which is a community-building app for not only sports but other activities, and the other he found on Instagram. Szabi said:

“I train on Thursdays, Sundays, and Saturdays. Practice is usually from 10 am for 2 hours on the weekend, and it’s a great way to get your mind off of things and enjoy the beach and sweat a little bit.”

EADA’s Student Club works to get students more involved in fun and engaging ways. Here’s just a glimpse of the activities organized thus far:

  • Welcome party for master’s students
  • Karaoke night
  • Paddle tournament
  • Football tournament
  • Candlelight concert
  • Christmas dinner
  • Park Güell tour
  • 5km run training
  • Barcelona Half Marathon
  • International Day at EADA
  • Sunday at a vintage market
  • Midnight running
  • Paddle surfing at Barceloneta

When living in Barcelona, the options can be limitless! Don’t be afraid to try something new and get involved—to stay active is not only a great way to stay healthy, but to connect with others and the city as well.
