Transformative Lessons from My First Months at EADA and Life In Barcelona

Starting a new chapter in life often comes with a mix of excitement and apprehension. For me, joining EADA for a International Master in FinTech and Business Analytics was no different. Being accepted into a university ranked among the top 30 business schools worldwide felt like a dream come true, a testament to years of hard work and a gateway to unparalleled opportunities. Reflecting on my first few months here, I can confidently say that the journey has been transformative, both academically and personally.

Navigating the Academic Challenge at EADA

One of the first things I realised at EADA is that the learning curve is steep, but the support system makes it manageable. The academic structure is designed to challenge and stretch your capabilities. From case studies to hands-on simulations, every class pushes you to think critically and apply theoretical concepts in real-world scenarios.

For me, adapting to this intensity was a bit harder than expected, especially since I joined the programme a little late due to visa delays. I had to catch up on missed sessions and assignments while adjusting to the fast-paced coursework, which was initially overwhelming. However, this experience taught me the importance of resilience, time management, and prioritisation.

Projects, in particular, have emerged as a pivotal part of the learning process. They are often complex and challenging, requiring creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving. At first, I wasn’t sure how I would perform in a team setting, especially under tight deadlines. Presenting our solution to industry professionals was nerve-wracking but incredibly rewarding. It boosted my confidence and prepared me for real-world business challenges.

In addition, I found myself rising to the occasion, surprising myself with the quality of my contributions and the outcomes we achieved as a group.

These experiences taught me not only the value of teamwork but also the importance of trusting in my own abilities. EADA doesn’t just teach you content—it pushes you to discover strengths you didn’t know you had. The challenges of those early days have become the foundation of my growth, and I’m proud of how far I’ve come.

Embracing Life in  Barcelona

Relocating to Barcelona has been a transformative experience that goes far beyond academics. The city’s vibrant culture, breathtaking architecture, and dynamic energy make it an inspiring place to live and grow. Barcelona feels like a city where every corner has something new to discover—from the charming streets of the Gothic Quarter to the lively squares where locals and tourists mingle. One of the most striking aspects of life in Barcelona is how it effortlessly blends its rich history with a modern, cosmopolitan vibe.

Walking through its neighborhoods, you can marvel at the iconic works of Gaudí, such as the Sagrada Família, while also experiencing the city’s innovative spirit in its contemporary art, technology hubs, and international community.

Adapting to a new country came with its challenges, of course. Learning to navigate public transportation, adjusting to the rhythm of Spanish life (hello, siesta!), and picking up new languages were all part of the process. One particularly amusing moment was when I tried to order coffee during my first week here. I ended up accidentally asking for something completely different, which led to a good laugh with the barista and a memorable introduction to Spanish hospitality.

Living in Barcelona has been a lesson in embracing change and finding joy in new experiences. It’s a city that doesn’t just welcome you—it inspires you to see the world and yourself in a whole new way.

Team Building at the Residential Training Campus in Collbató

One of the standout experiences of my time at EADA was the team-building programme at the Collbató Campus. Nestled in the serene Montserrat mountain range, the campus offered a peaceful setting to step back from academics and focus on building relationships and developing soft skills.

The activities were designed to challenge us, fostering teamwork, communication, and leadership.

One exercise, in particular, left a lasting impact on me. We were asked to share a personal fear and discuss how we overcame something deeply significant. When I finished sharing my story, I felt a sense of relief and was moved by the support and empathy of my colleagues. This moment pushed me out of my comfort zone and taught me the power of vulnerability in building trust and connection.

I also learned the importance of active listening and respecting diverse perspectives. The experience reinforced that effective teamwork isn’t about individual brilliance but about collective effort, trust, and mutual understanding.

The team-building at Collbató wasn’t just about bonding, it was a transformative experience that shaped how I approach collaboration and communication, both professionally and personally.

Learning to Collaborate and Speak Up

Before EADA, I often hesitated to voice my opinions in group settings, unsure if they were valuable enough. But the collaborative environment here has completely shifted my perspective. Whether it’s during a lively class discussion or a challenging group project, I’ve come to realise that every perspective adds value and can spark innovative solutions.

The constant group work has been a game-changer. It’s taught me how to balance assertiveness with empathy — ensuring that everyone’s voice is heard while keeping the team focused on our goals. These experiences have not only sharpened my ability to collaborate effectively but have also instilled confidence in my ideas. The skills I’ve gained here go beyond academics — they are the cornerstone of success in the professional world, where teamwork and adaptability are non-negotiable.

Personal Growth

Perhaps the most profound takeaway from my time at EADA has been the personal growth. Stepping out of my comfort zone – academically, socially, and culturally—has been a journey of self-discovery. I’ve learned to trust my instincts, embrace uncertainty, and tackle challenges with an open and curious mindset. These experiences have reshaped how I see myself and my potential, making me more resilient and resourceful than ever before.

Looking Ahead

As I continue my journey at EADA, I’m excited about the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. The lessons I’ve learned so far—adapting to academic rigor, mastering collaboration, and developing critical soft skills—have laid a strong foundation for the future.

For anyone considering EADA, I can confidently say it’s more than just a school; it’s a transformative experience. It challenges you to grow, inspires you to lead, and equips you with the tools to thrive in a dynamic, global environment. EADA doesn’t just prepare you for a career — it shapes you into the best version of yourself.
