With the CFA Research Challenge 2023 just around the corner, EADA is thrilled to announce its two teams selected for this competition. The annual Research Challenge is hosted by the CFA Institute, the premier global association for investment management professionals. Each year, more than 5,000 students from top universities and business schools compete to produce a comprehensive equity research report for a publicly listed company (this year: Telefónica).

The Challenge involves several steps:

  • Analysis of a public company
  • Mentoring by a professional research analyst or portfolio manager
  • Writing an equity research report
  • Presentation of research to a panel of experts
The CFA  Research Challenge is  a great opportunity for the participants to learn how to analyse and value a public company in a very professional way

It is with great honour that EADA is part of such an international contest filled with many talents. It is not only a task to compete against the best but also an amazing learning experience for our participants. Our Programme Director Master in Finance, Jaume Bonet, claims that the CFA  Research Challenge is  “a great opportunity for the participants to learn how to analyse and value a public company in a very professional way” and “learn to work under pressure in a competitive environment with other top business schools and universities”

Meet the Crew:

Team A (from left to right): Ghassan Alkheyr (Syria), Nikolai Sinclair (Norway), Sanam Nemati (Germany), Michael Khalid Ghutmi (USA), David Rios Gaviria (Colombia)

Team B (from left to right): Oliver Edward Tremlett (UK), Victor Desmet (Belgium),Chiraz Hamrouni (Tunisia), Søren Lund (Norway), Philippe van Doorne (Netherlands)

Having such a big task ahead of them, we’ve asked the teams what made them join the CFA teams. Oliver Tremlett, from the UK, claims that by joining the team “the experience will be extremely valuable and I want to spend more time out of my comfort zone.” On the other hand, Sanam Nemati, from Germany, tells us she already planned to join such an event when she applied for her Master’s a year ago, telling us “The CFA Challenge is a great opportunity to improve my skills and connect the learned theory with a real business case. You need to get your “hands dirty” to grow. This is why I wanted to be part of the team.”

I’m excited to compete against the best and brightest financial students in Spain and hopefully in the world

Excitement grows around EADA today, as we’re fully confident and proud these teams will do well and give their best effort to grasp the former glories of previous teams reaching the national finals in Madrid and the EMEA 2019 final in Switzerland. Søren Lund, from Norway, tells us he’s excited “to represent EADA together with my team and to compete against the best and brightest financial students in Spain and hopefully in the world.”

I do have to respect the level of competition this Challenge brings

From now on, the teams are put to the test! David Rios Gaviria, from Colombia, believes that “the competition itself is a challenge”. With intensive work from our teams by balancing their workload for their master’s and preparing their search for innovative financial analysis, it is indeed a big responsibility.

Time is running fast, with the deadline for the written report in February, and the top 5 teams nominated for the local final presentation later in the same month. EADA wishes the best of luck to the teams in hopes of climbing the ladder to success!
